NORFOLK

Legal/Practice Support Specialist

This position provides technical support and services to legal staff. Person will work directly with attorneys, paralegals, vendors and other legal staff in determining needs, recommending strategies and implementing technology solutions. The candidate must be able to manage multiple ongoing projects concurrently with ability to set and communicate priorities; demonstrate the ability to manage other staff members in a high pressure production environment; support attorneys and paralegals in the use of litigation software (or other support tools) in preparation of cases and trials; provide technical (support and) services (to legal staff) regarding strategies and resources for electronic discovery; document production and database design; maintenance and normalization; assist with trial preparation and court room technical support; set up and operation of technical tools in the court room will be necessary; manage large volume of imaged documents and electronic data utilizing appropriate software (and technological tools); utilize litigation support and court room presentation tools and technologies to include Concordance, Summation, iManage, Trial Director, Sanction II, iPro, iConectNxt, Doculex, LiveNote, CaseMap, PowerPoint, MS Access, Excel or equivalent software; coordinate project set-up, scanning and coding of documents with both internal staff and outside vendors; provide training to legal staff and IT department on software applications and use of current relevant technology; and provide periodic summaries and reports of each case or matter for legal staff.   • Position requires an undergraduate college degree and experience in a technical position. Experience working with a law firm preferred.
  • Position requires ability to work under short deadlines in high pressure environment in order to meet competing deadlines. Person must be well organized and possess strong communication and project management skills. Person must possess the ability to act and work independently and manage multiple responsibilities. Must be highly motivated and detail-oriented. Must be able to understand and follow specific and detailed instructions. Must display a professional manner with firm legal staff, clients and vendors. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must have the ability to travel when necessary and work beyond normal business hours.
  • Equipment to be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment, such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, and others. Must be able to operate desktop computers and lap top computers, printers, scanners, CD/DVD, and trial preparation equipment to include audio/visual equipment.
  • Typical Physical Demands: Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment as mentioned above. Must be able to lift boxes of documents with approximate weight of 30 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Works in typical office setting. Overnight travel as necessary. Must carry cellular telephone provided by firm on and off hours as defined by project. May work in court room setting.

Legal Secretary: Seeking an experienced secretary with strong legal background to handle a heavy workload in its litigation section. Requires a minimum of 3 years litigation experience, above-average organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and the ability to handle several different matters at a time.
